It isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Because the last film already felt like the ending.<\/p>\n

Top Gun: Maverick<\/a><\/em> didn\u2019t leave much unfinished. It wrapped things up in a way most franchises avoid: clean, emotional, and complete. Maverick found closure. The story landed where it needed to.<\/p>\n

So now there\u2019s a problem.<\/p>\n

If the story is already complete, what is this new film adding?<\/p>\n

It can\u2019t just repeat the same formula. It can\u2019t rely only on nostalgia again. And it definitely can\u2019t assume that bigger action will automatically mean a better film.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where things get uncertain.<\/p>\n

The same names returning\u2014Jerry Bruckheimer and Ehren Kruger\u2014suggest the approach won\u2019t change much. Real aircraft. Practical shooting. Minimal CGI. That\u2019s the identity now.<\/p>\n

But identity isn\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n

Last time, the realism felt fresh because everything else around it felt artificial. This time, the audience already knows what to expect. The surprise is gone.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also a shift in emotional weight. Val Kilmer\u2019s absence will be felt, whether the film addresses it directly or not. His presence grounded Maverick<\/em>. Without that, the tone changes.<\/p>\n

So the focus likely moves forward to Miles Teller and Glen Powell. But that only works if the story is built around them, not just around Maverick again.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, it risks becoming a replay.<\/p>\n

Right now, there\u2019s no story. No clear direction. Just confirmation.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s where the real question sits.<\/p>\n

Not whether Top Gun 3<\/em> will be made\u2014but whether it has a reason to exist beyond the success of the last film.<\/p>\n

Because if it doesn\u2019t find that reason, everything else\u2014jets, speed, scale\u2014won\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n
