Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 13<\/strong>: To mark World Environment Day \u201823, Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, organized Clean-A-thon, a cleanliness drive at Juhu Beach in Mumbai. This initiative is part of the Bank\u2019s nationwide campaign to clean 25+ beaches and water bodies. Around\u00a0200 +\u00a0volunteers joined the campaign to emphasize the urgency of combating plastic pollution and promoting responsible waste management practices.\u00a0Dr. Chetan V. Kantharia, MBBS, MS (Gen Surgery) graced the occasion.<\/p>\n

The cleanliness drive witnessed participation from the Bank\u2019s branch employees, local communities, environmental activists\/influencers, local authorities, and volunteers who collected\u00a02450 kg\u00a0of plastic waste from beaches and water bodies. The volunteers also educated\u00a0the local people\u00a0about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and how they can reduce the use of single-use plastics.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the initiative\u00a0Mr.\u00a0Ravi Narayanan, Group Executive \u2013 Branch Banking, Retail Liabilities & Product, Axis Bank\u00a0said,\u00a0\u201cWe firmly believe that the responsibility to protect our planet lies with each one of us, and through this initiative,\u00a0we aim to instill a sense of environmental consciousness and responsibility amongst fellow citizens. This initiative will\u00a0add to several ongoing\u00a0global efforts for\u00a0a\u00a0greener and more sustainable future, reaffirming our commitment to build a safe and healthier\u00a0planet, which we owe to the\u00a0generations which follow us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bank will be driving this campaign from 4th\u00a0to 11th\u00a0June 2023 across 20 cities, namely Mumbai, Bangalore, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Patna, etc. This initiative is in alignment with the United Nations\u2019 overarching theme for World Environment Day 2023, \u2018#BeatPlasticPollution\u2019.<\/p>\n
