India’s Clean Energy Expansion to Drive Grid Transformation and Economic Growth: Gridpro Ventures-PNN

Mr. Rajendra Iyer, Founder and CEO, Gridpro Ventures Pvt. Ltd

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], February 20: India’s accelerated push toward renewable energy is set to redefine the country’s power landscape, with installed renewable capacity targeted to reach nearly 530 GW by 2030 and total generation capacity projected at approximately 778 GW. This transition will see non-fossil sources contribute close to two-thirds of India’s installed power capacity, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to sustainability and climate action.

The scale of investment is unprecedented. An estimated ₹40 lakh crore (USD 450 billion) is expected to be deployed between 2022 and 2027 across generation, transmission, and energy storage infrastructure, creating significant opportunities for technology providers, MSMEs, and domestic manufacturing.

However, experts highlight that capacity addition alone will not be sufficient.

“As India rapidly integrates solar and wind into the grid, the focus must shift to reliability, flexibility, and resilience,” said Mr. Rajendra Iyer, Founder and CEO, Gridpro Ventures Pvt. Ltd. “Renewables introduce variability, which requires advanced grid solutions such as STATCOM and HVDC, along with modernization of conventional power plants to enable flexible operations.”

Energy storage is expected to emerge as a critical enabler of this transition. Battery Energy Storage Systems, pumped hydro, and emerging technologies will help manage intermittency while supporting India’s fast-growing electric vehicle ecosystem. Strategic public–private partnerships will be essential to scale storage infrastructure efficiently.

Equally important is ensuring that India’s renewable rollout is socially inclusive. Innovative land-use models, including farmer-partnership frameworks, can allow solar and wind projects to coexist with agriculture while providing sustainable income to rural communities. Workforce development and localized skill training will also be key to translating infrastructure expansion into long-term regional employment.

“India has a rare opportunity to combine global clean energy technologies with indigenous innovation,” added Iyer. “By strengthening MSME participation, investing in R&D, and building local talent pools, the country can create globally competitive capabilities while accelerating decarbonisation.”

As India moves from ambition to execution, coordinated policy implementation, grid modernization, energy storage deployment, and community-centric development will be central to unlocking the full potential of its renewable energy roadmap.
